I believe you have done an excellent job of summarizing why Sherlock is both so damn strange and so damn fascinated by John, who doesn't find his strangeness strange at all. (The secret being, as someone's icon once summarized, Sherlock is mad, but his flatmate is mad as a box of ferrets on cocaine).
